GERMAN LANGUAGE - PHOENIX SHOCKER SERIES
This series of German language books were published by Phoenix Shocker or Shocker Books from 1967 to 1970. At that time the world was in the midst of the Cold War, Germany was split in two by the Berlin Wall, and Sean Connery WAS James Bond. That’s my explanation anyway as to why almost every cover in this series features Connery’s image. Even Robert Markham’s “Colonel Sun”, the last book in this series published in Germany in 1970, features Connery’s image on the cover. That was despite the fact that George Lazenby had already briefly appeared as Bond on the big screen just the year before. Perhaps in 1970, with Connery set to reprise the role of Bond in “Diamonds Are Forever”, the publishers decided to maintain the Connery link on the last cover in this interesting series.
